(stjoebasketball.net) - St. Joe faces Coldwater in a rare meeting at the Bear Den

As strange as it may sound, there is a long history between the Bears and Cardinals when it comes to basketball. The first time St. Joe and Coldwater played, it came in the 1931 Class B State Championship game at the University of Michigan’s Demonstration Hall. St. Joe won their fifth State Championship in 11 seasons as the Bears defeated the Cardinals 22-20. Since then the two schools have met only 3 times and only once here in St. Joe. The last game played was January 27, 2006 at Coldwater, which was won by the Bears 53-41.

The Bears were unable to comeback from a 24-12 deficit after the first quarter in Friday’s 62-42 loss at Niles. David Brennan had 10 points and was the only Bear player to score in double digits. It’s only the Bears second loss in the last seven games.  The Bears conclude West Division play at 4-4.

Coldwater got 23 points each from Cam Holicki and Seth Szafranski as Coldwater ended a five game losing streak as the with a 72-71 win at Battle Creek Harper Creek. Holicki scored on two free throws with 0.8 seconds remaining in the game to give the Cardinals the win. Bobby White also added 13 points.
